Privacy Policy
ClimbingNote+ is developed and operated by Zhangxuan Xu. This policy explains how the app and the climbingnote.app website handle data. Effective date: September 1, 2026.

Our approach is to keep your climbing log on your device, collect optional usage analytics only after consent, and clearly disclose what is sent when you submit feedback.
1. Data Stored on Your Device
Activities, climbs, grades, attempts, send status, tags, gyms, crags, routes, and backup data that you create are stored in the app's local database. No account is required. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data may remove these records, so use the JSON export feature to make backups you control.
2. Location Information
The app accesses your current location only after permission is granted. It uses location to save coordinates for a gym or crag, help order nearby places, and obtain a city or address. Saved place coordinates remain in the local app database and are not uploaded to our application servers.
Platform Geocoding
When you ask the app to turn coordinates into a city or address, the device operating system or its geocoding provider may process those coordinates to return the result in real time. That processing is governed by the relevant platform provider. You can deny or disable location access and enter places manually.
3. Optional App Usage Analytics
On first use, you can choose whether to join the Experience Improvement program. Firebase Analytics is enabled only when you consent and Firebase is reachable. You can turn it off at any time in Settings.
Event Information That May Be Sent
The current version may send screen names, activity type, activity duration, item count, climbing type, send or attempt status, route type, statistics period, import or export result, and app, device, or technical information processed automatically by Firebase. The app does not send specific grades, place names, route names, tag text, or custom grade labels.
Purpose and Service Provider
We use this information to understand feature usage, diagnose problems, and improve the product. It is not used for advertising or sold. Google Firebase processes analytics data as a service provider, subject to Google's terms and retention controls.
4. Feedback You Submit
When you use Feedback, the subject, details, and optional reply email you enter are securely sent to the developer with the app version, build number, package name, operating system version, and language settings. Diagnostic information is attached by default and includes the device model, screen and time-zone settings, location permission status, database version and aggregate counts, grade-system types, and sanitized operations and errors from the previous 30 minutes. You can turn off Attach diagnostic information before submitting.
Diagnostic Scope and Retention
Diagnostics do not include climbing log content, specific grades, places, problems, routes, tags, coordinates, or device identifiers. Diagnostic files are temporarily stored privately; download links expire after 24 hours and files are automatically deleted within 7 days. Feedback is used only to reply, investigate problems, and improve the product. You can omit your email address or submit without diagnostics.
5. Website Analytics
climbingnote.app does not load Google Analytics by default. It loads analytics only after you select Allow analytics. If accepted, the site may record page path, download platform, language switches, and guide-link clicks. Your choice is stored locally in your browser under climbingnote_web_analytics_consent_v1. Use Analytics preferences in the footer to review or change it.
6. Sharing, Retention, and Security
Apart from platform geocoding, analytics you consent to, and delivery services used when you submit feedback, we do not sell your data or upload your climbing log to our servers. Local data remains under your control until you delete records, clear app data, or uninstall the app. Network transfers use protections provided by the platform and service provider. No system can guarantee absolute security, so protect exported backup files appropriately.
7. Your Choices
You can deny location permission, enter places manually, decline or disable app analytics, decline website analytics, turn off diagnostics before submitting feedback, delete local records, export a JSON backup, or uninstall the app. Because no account is required, we cannot locate or delete a local climbing log from a server.
8. Changes and Contact
